For a pop of color, I'm thinking turquoise on the chairs. I have a friend who is a seamstress, so those will be relatively inexpensive. I want the Robert Allen $80 a yard fabric, but will be very happy with the almost-the-same Joann Fabrics versions.
Here are the $80 versions:
And here, on the far left and far right are the $15 versions. I'm not sure I've found the right one to go with the curtain fabric (which I love). It will probably be a solid, which I didn't show you:
BUT, here's the big secret....When you order samples of Robert Allen fabrics from Calico Corners, they charge you $6 for every four samples. At first, I was quite annoyed at that, since I wanted about 15 samples. But when they came, guess what? They were 15-18" square! Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Napkins of course! Or even in frames as fabric art! Actually, a couple of them are even big enough to make a 16" pillow with (front only of course). They are already hemmed like most linens, and you are getting a Robert Allen fabric napkin for $1.50 each!!! Do people already know about this idea? I hadn't thought of it, and am so excited. They could even be stitched together to make a runner or placemats (since you can buy as many samples as you want of the same pattern). If they were free, I'd feel kind of badly about doing this, but since they charge for them, I'm thinking it's ok....am I right? So that's my exciting discovery for today!
UPDATE: I spent the day painting white and putting up cheap ribbons to imitate stripes, like a mock-up. I am very interested in your honest opinions! I'm not sure if it's Kelly Wearstler crazy (not for me) or Mary McDonald fabulous. Here it is - the blue swatches draped on the chairs are what I'm considering for slipcovers, but I'll have to show you a daylight picture of that. For now, I'm stressing about the curtains/stripes...what do you think?
Also, I ran across this house .... If I had $3m today this is what I might buy:
Loving the color of these cabinets:

I love the idea of having a little desk in a butler's pantry:

Love all the fabrics--great idea with the Robert Allen samples--I think I'll copy you.
Don't forget to use a coupon at Joann's.
If I had that wonderful house at the beach--I'd never go to the beach and that's saying a lot for me.
That is a completely brilliant idea with the fabric samples...a buck fifty for a fabulous napkin??? That is pretty much unheard of! And I'm diggin' the black stripes idea...especially the smaller ones (c: I can't wait to see what you decide on!

Stacy,
Thanks so much for coming by the blog and leaving such a nice comment! I'm glad to have discovered your great blog too and I look forward to following you! Great idea for the samples!
Best,
Amy
Stacy, I love the stripes and that will look great with the blue slips for the chairs. Great idea using samples for napkins or art. Where do you order it from?
I know exactly what you mean about Mary McDonald vs Kelly Wearstler.
I love the stripes and in fact I want to paint black and light cream stripes in my kitchen surrounding a double window.
I wanted matching chests on either side in front of the wallpaper in black with gold mirrors above-
Enjoyed visiting,

I think the stripes look amazing. I don't always love stripes on a wall but the windows break it up so nicely. I was confused about the fabrics. Is the current curtain staying? I love it and wouldn't change it. Looking forward to following along and seeing what happens in there.
I have to say, I'm loving the stripe look! It's bold and fun, and paired with your classically beautiful furniture and accents, it looks in no way over the top. It just works! I even love the look with your current drapery. This room will be sooo amazing, I can't wait!

Stacy, You know I am a black and white stripe gal and I love most any kind of stripe. So having said that, you might be surprised in reading this. I personally think it is too much going on. It does not feel like YOU to me. It almost feels contrived to me,just too much of a good thing.I feel either the walls need to be the star or the curtains, but not both. I know I am the only one saying this, but you know I also love you and will always be honest. If you decide to do it because you love it I will cheer you on, but You are reluctant for a reason. Listen to your instincts, you have wonderful taste and style. I hope you don't mind me being honest? xo Kathysue
Kathysue....I love you for your honesty!!! I truly appreciate this comment, and everyone else's. I am writing back to you in particular because it is hard to tell a friend you don't like something they are doing, and I respect and appreciate you for being a good enough friend to do that.
Stacy
Just wanted to let you know that I included this post in my Coud de Coeur of the week. Enjoy!

I think I will be ordering myself some fabric samples to make some cheeky little cushions & some wall art, thank you so much for sharing this i found you via 'Dream it, Build it, Style it' glad that Nancy featured you so I found your wonderful blog
love the stripes, but the scale might be a bit busy, I would consider either supersizing the stripes, or lowering the contrast by going with maybe a charcoal or lighter grey, or even gold for fun against the blue!
I agree with anonymous that the stripes should be larger and lighter. Maybe tone on tone whites in gloss and flat. I think you'll grow tired of the black stripes quickly and they may make you dizzy. I love stripes too, and a lot of pattern, I love your blog and new to it, hope you don't mind my honesty so soon, I've been wrong many times.
Amazing shots of some equally amazing interior designs. I have to thank you for giving me ideas for my house's renovation.
